For Young Inventors
Are you ready to learn about the exciting world of polymers and stretch your imagination? Then let’s get hands-on with a polymer that has some truly unique and amazing properties!
The annual Rubber Band Contest for Young Inventors is hosted by the Akron Global Polymer Academy – an outreach division of the School of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering at The University of Akron. This contest challenges students in grades 5-8 to design and create a working invention/artwork that incorporates at least one rubber band. Students can compete in one of two separate divisions: 1) Arts & Leisure; or 2) Science & Engineering.
The first-place winner and runner-up in each division receives a top financial prize. The four remaining finalists in each division (who are not a first-place winner or runner-up) also receive a smaller financial prize. The top ten schools with the most student entries each receive an equal donation shared from a donation pool.
Rubber Division, ACS has sponsored this event since it began in 2007!
